Cover Art: Tribute To the 45RPM Picture Sleeve

Once upon a time, music consumption was limited to a single format: pressed vinyl records which stored data by crudely etching it into the vinyl in little ridges.

This disc storage unit was called a "record" For playback, the record was laid upon a rotating device called a "turntable", which read the data stored on the disc using a vibrating sliver of metal called a "needle" This entire playback unit was called a "record player" A 45 RPM disc was called a "single" or "45" Sound reproduction quality was "very poor" by modern standards, but good enough to do the job.

Here's a random sampling from some well-known artists providing a sort of overview from the early 60's (when 45RPM picture sleeves became common) through the 80's. It's not a best-of, just an overview of the vinyl 45 era. Also a bonus for the people who arrive at this site seeking album/single art via search engines (always the biggest percentage of visitors here).
