Lists: All-Time Best Selling Artists, Worldwide
According to Wikipedia, using a variety of sources, here is the most comprehensive list of best-selling rock/pop/music performers around the world based on a formula of total albums + total singles sold. #4 artist, Alla Pugacheva is from Russia, and is the best selling female performer in the world (unless Abba counts). Nana Mouskouri is from Greece, Mireille Mathieu is French, Wei Wei is Chinese, Modern Talking is German, and A. R. Rahman and Illayaraja are Indian. The numbers are pretty rough estimations in some cases, but are probably the closest available, although piracy issues make exact counts foggy in some cases. It's going to take a long time to catch the Beatles in total units moved (unless someone in China or India is able to crossover the linguistic and cultural divisions in those countries). Mariah Carey is poised to become the top selling performer from the 1990's unless Madonna's and Michael Jackson's sales rebound. Garth Brooks' sales record is phenomenal for a country artist, and phenomenal for any artist. The late Barry White is still soul champion, unless the Jackson 5 count, which maybe they should. AC/DC is top metal act, unless Led Zeppelin counts, which they certainly should. Where are the Eagles, creators of the world's top selling album, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975? Not here, says Wiki.
