The Seeker

Two more futile search terms have brought two weary collectors to Freeway Jam. Apparantly, Google and Yahoo have only indexed my posts through about a week ago, so I haven't seen the Rickie Lee Jones fans yet. Can't wait till the next index.

Mary Hopkin: Those Were The days (1971)
Apple artist Mary Hopkin is best known for "Those Were The Days", but had another top-10 hit, "Goodbye" written by Paul McCartney. She also did a nice version of Tom Paxton's "How Come The Sun" on her Earth Song/Ocean Song album. She married her producer, Tony Visconti (who later married May Pang, John Lennon's ex-fling), and her career dried up when Apple did. I've looked for "How Come the Sun" but never found it on p2p. Her hits are easily available; her debut and best-of have come out on CD, but none of her other albums.

The Carpenters: Superstar [Japan 45] (1971)
Shame on you, my friend. To be fair, this search was on Hong Kong Yahoo, and the Carpenters are a staple in karaoke parlors across Asia. The picture sleeve to the right is the Japanese "Superstar" 45, nice shot of Karen at the tom-toms. "Superstar" was first done by Delaney and Bonnie and bore the title "Groupie". The Carpenters wholesomely changed a lyric from "sleep with you" to "be with you" Leon Russell also covered it.
