Feel free to dig through the Deep Freeze for more, but stuff dated before mid-March 2005 is still formative and impressionistic, and not really worth the effort.

Lists: Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland OH

I can never remember who is in and who is out; a lot of artists who deserve to be in it aren't, but of course the bigger it gets, the less exclusive it becomes. Capturing in granite what had originally been a spontaneous music is a little silly of course, but only a curmudgeon can really begrudge its aim, which is to keep history alive and recognize the performers who created the history, some of whom were overdue for a little recognition.

Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Ballots are sent to about 1000 rock 'experts'. Overall, the picks have been pretty good, given the broad overview the Hall has to take. As the eligible artists now are starting to include those who became active in the 1980's, I'm curious to see how the seminal, but often semi-known, indie legends of the era fare. Also interesting will be who among essentially non-rock pop artists will be included. Is Culture Club worthy? The Replacements? Sonic Youth? 10,000 Maniacs? Cyndi Lauper? Mariah Carey? Stay tuned.

The museum itself, designed by famed architect I. M. Pei, opened on September 2, 1995 in downtown Cleveland, on the shore of Lake Erie. Cleveland is the birthplace of Alan Freed, rock 'n' roll's first mega-influential deejay, whose racially integrated package tours in the 50's introduced Chuck Berry to a wide audience.

This list is from The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's Website.

Imagine a festival with a line-up like that...I'd go. :-)

So would i! :)

When I read this over, it looked like a festival set-list to me, too. Man, I'd have put up with pretty primitive conditions to see a festival like that.

;-)

Me too, wouldn't even moan if the toilet was in a tent or if it rained all the time...

When are the Sex Pistols going to be inducted?

Sadness.

I was wondering that very same thing. I hope The Clash aren't intended to be the only nod to punk rock.

Of course, they're probably scared of them, and somewhat offended by them. But that's why the Sex Pistols were so great.

I doubt Lydon doesn't give a wank anyway.
