Lists: "Louie Louie" Covers 1955-2005
![]() Consider this list an addendum to the Garage Rock playlist. By most estimates, the Beatles' "Yesterday" remains the most-covered song in history, with at least 3000 versions in existence; George Gershwin's "Summertime" is second, at 2,500. And third place may well belong to "Louie Louie", written by Richard Berry, and best known for the 1963 #2 hit for The Kingsmen. The total may be up near the 2,000 level; here's just a sampling of notable artists who have covered "Louie Louie" since it was written in 1955, at the very dawn of the rock era. Although the Kingsmen's version, largely unintelligible, was rumored to have dirty words in the lyrics, it didn't, although Iggy & The Stooges version is pretty filthy. Comments:
I don't know how you found me but thanks.I'll blogroll you too. Interestingly enough, one of my blogpals, Andy Martello is a total Louie Louie fanatic. I recorded a couple of versions for him on his b-day. I'll have to see about putting those up on my site. They were just for fun, though.
Hi Bud--

Not sure anymore either how I found you either; I think it was click exchange or a rate-this-blog or something like that. Always glad to give a tip of the hat to working musicians, though. Thanks for stopping by! << Home
