Feel free to dig through the Deep Freeze for more, but stuff dated before mid-March 2005 is still formative and impressionistic, and not really worth the effort.

Questions 67 and 68

The Moody Blues: A Question of Balance (1970)

In a break from tradition, I'm going to pose a question to you, the visitor to Freeway Jam. (Today's playlist is below)

In previous weeks, our random playlists have dealt either with specific genres, certain periods of time, or just fun with title keywords.

I would like to introduce the occasional artist playlist as well.

So here are my questions; I hope you can take a moment to share your thoughts:

1) Who is an artist that you've always meant to listen to someday, but still haven't gotten around to? One you think you'd probably like, but just don't know enough about yet?

2) What is a genre of music you're curious about exploring but haven't gotten to yet? Or, one you've listened to a little, but aren't sure who other artists who produce it are.

All eras or genres qualify.

Any and all thoughts appreciated; it'll help me provide more subject matter of interest to Freeway Jam's readers, and I'll probably learn something from it too.

Sidebar: With these two questions, there is also an answer to the question posed on Feb. 2 to report, which was: Which bands have had the same lineup remain intact longer than U2? You can see it here.

Comments:
...anybody??

Bands/Artists I've always wanted to know a little about --

The Faces
Jeff Beck
Stevie Ray Vaughn

I guess that's it. I'm pretty well rounded, myself.

Well, the Moody Blues, for one...they seem a pretty faceless band, sort of showing up in different eras with different styles... I like msome of their songs, but don't know much about em or what they're all about...

Interesting questions. The bands that I probably would like more but haven't found the time to listen to them:

Muse - big fan of Radiohead and have heard positive things. I actually have 'Absolution'.

Wilco - I actually own two CD's but still haven't made the leap. I've briefly listened but would like to give them another try.

From classic rock:

Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead. Both of which should have found more time in my player.

I think that's it. As far as genre goes I feel like I've tried most types. I'd like more experimental jazz/blues (a la RL Burnside) but I do have some.

Thanks for responding to my nudge ;-)

Kachina-

The Faces and Jeff Beck would be good to get into after the controversy I got into on Rod Stewart.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is one I need to explore more myself, so good suggestion. You are very well-rounded; a renaissance woman ;-)

Jim K--

The Moody Blues sound like a good idea, too. I put them off forever, and then tried to dig a little below the surface with them. Found some interesting stuff.

lang-

Wilco is really good, and they have a good story. Good choice. I don't think I've ever listened to Muse; I'll add them to my check-out list. I'd love to do Stones and Dead playlists one day; I've had a lot of 60's posts lately, so I might hold off on them till later; but they're coming.

So far: The Faces/Jeff Beck/Stevie Ray Vaughn/Moody Blues/Muse/Wilco/Rolling Stones

I'll take any other nominations, and try a few later this week.

Mucho thank you's.

I'd like to start getting into Tom Waits but it's a little overwhelming. I'd like a good place to start. I'm interested in a review of Everything But the Girl as well.

Three Bands that I would like to listen to more and learn more about:

Quicksilver Messenger Service
The Band
New Riders of The Purple Sage

Thank you, Michele and mquest; you're choices have been added to the list.

I'll try the first one tomorrow; haven't decided who yet, but it'll be from the list we've compiled here.
